Fashion Labels : What They Need To Do Next

The downturn in the economic system has made us rethink our fashion statements. been well remarked that the downturn in the economy has to a great extent impacted the fashion industry. Although recessions occur once every 15-20 years, this recent one we’re in is going to have a prolonged effect on our whole concept of fashion. We are living in a very practical age now. It wasn’t so long ago that decadance and frivolity were all part of the fashion scene – nothing was too extreme or too expensive. – you could only be accused of being too boring. Now though the fashion catwalks and fashion labels are getting bad publicity. And now that everyone’s mindful of globalization, even dirt cheap fashion brands are getting criticism for employing sweatshops to make their items! Is it that everybody suddenly become so very hard to please?

Not at all. Humans love fashion, and forever will. It is imprinted in our pysche to identify new styles! As a matter of fact, looking online there is huge competition between online store retailers (e.g. searching for wholesale jewellery) – a sign there is still strong demand and supply. What’s long gone is the old-school way we considered fashion – of being dictated to by the established labels. Fashion has always followed the public rather than vice versa, and today many issues are stopping us buying from big brands. First Off, people are much more mindful of globalization, and flaunting your clothing labels can give the impression you are selfish and uncaring in certain circles. Second, we’re poor! Fashion has invariably been a luxury, not an essential. In an economic downturn, luxury items get hit the hardest. Finally, individuals express themselves much more individually nowadays -we don’t need to be told what to wear or how to act, we no longer see ourselves as being part of large groups, and fashion demands that sort of herd-like thinking to trade in numbers.

So what does this mean for the fashion industry? As ever, they need to change to exist – create a wider range of clothing lines to cater to more corners of the market. If you’re a small store selling individual clothing at a decent cost, you have a strong business model despite the dismal economic months we are experiencing. Nowadays, people are blending their styles, buying from markets and smaller, bargain-priced fashion shops.
